Bench & Key Shelf
This piece is the first piece from a series of 98 called “Chandelle”, and is a collaboration with the Architects at Colizza Bruni Architecture. The bench design was conceived by Colizza Bruni as an abstraction and extrusion of the house plan proper; each element corresponding to the basic tectonic elements of their house design, located in the Hintonburg neighborhood of Ottawa. We were fortunate enough to have a very adventurous client in Nordic Light Developments Ltd., who worked with the team to achieve the design vision, right down to the entry bench and key shelf. The 2” solid Padauk Bench is cantilevered by off the wall and millwork end-gable with heavy aluminum angles. The white lacquer boxes are suspended off the millwork gable-end with concealed fasteners and house 2 delicate canary yellow stained glass adjustable shelves. I was fortunate enough to have had the extraordinary help of my father Kevin Cooper throughout the project.
